Ms. Laughrey will retire on January 25th after 21 years of service.

NAEye: How long have you been teaching at North Allegheny?

Ms. Laughrey: I have been teaching for 21 years. 

 

NAEye: What is your favorite teaching memory at NAI?

Ms. Laughrey: I was teaching at NASH and I had a girl that wasn’t able to swim and she had to wear a life jacket and she was embarrassed. She really wanted to be able to swim so at the end of the unit she was able to take her life jacket off and was able to doggie paddle to the deep end.

 

NAEye: What advice do you give to the next gym teacher?

Ms. Laughrey: Coming to know that [you] like the kids and enjoyed them.

 

NAEye: What made you decide that you wanted to retire this year?

Ms. Laughrey: I was thinking about it for a while, and I was financially able to retire, and it is time to travel before I’m physically not able to.

 

NAEye: Is there one thing you are going to miss about teaching?

Ms. Laughrey: The Students

 

NAEye: If she could start all over again, what would you do so differently?

Ms. Laughrey: No regrets. I was glad I was able to choose teaching, I have met some incredible people along the way as well. 

 

NAEye: What is the one thing that you are most looking forward to when you retire?

Ms. Laughrey: My grandson that is being born at the end of this month.

 

NAEye: What do you have planned for right after you retire?

Ms. Laughrey: I have many trips planned including Amsterdam and a trip to Italy and Croatia with my niece.
