“America the free”
Freedoms and human rights have always been brought up in any conversation describing the wonders of our land. As Americans, our freedoms are kept by rights, and Project 2025 would strip those away.
Project 2025 is a series of changes that could be set into motion if former president Donald Trump gets elected in the upcoming 2024 election. These changes will devour everything that makes us a free nation and push us closer to a dystopia than the glory-filled home we’ve known. Some of the plans this project includes are as follows:
Cutting research for solutions to climate change
As of late, the government has been putting significant funding into the research of climate change and coming up with solutions to stop it. Instead of following through with these efforts, Project 2025 would cut these funds and instead promote the use of oil. This will have radical effects on our environment and only worsen every wound to our planet inflicted by us.
End student loan forgiveness
Analytics show that with the implementation of Project 2025, costs for student loans will spike drastically. Studies show that earners from ages 25-34 with an associate degree will have an additional $2,933 added to their payment, and an additional $4,064 in annual payment for those with a bachelor’s degree. If this plan is implemented with Trump’s election, economic struggle will be poured onto students and earners, making college only for the elites and leaving the working class of America undereducated.
Ban on abortion
Though it has been a highly debated topic between political parties through the years, the truth is that this aspect of the Project 2025 plan promises to strip away women’s rights to their own bodies. An estimated 32,101 pregnancies per year are due to sexual assault, and with Project 2025 all of them would be required to go through with the pregnancy. This mandate does not stop at grown women, but would also require children who were subject to assault to go through and give birth. If our country were really a free one, we wouldn’t allow the government to put restrictions on our own bodies.
Give Trump a near unrestricted rule
On July 3rd, the news broke that the supreme court passed “presidential immunity” meaning a president could have a near unrestricted rule as long as they are acting within the ‘core powers’ of a president. This includes that they cannot be prosecuted for any crimes due to the guise of the broad guidelines of ‘core powers’. To restate, if Trump wins, we are giving a convicted felon a country where he can do most anything he wants.
As it stands, there is still a chance to protect our democracy, our freedoms, and our country. Although I know most reading this article are too young to vote, I strongly urge you and implore you to support someone with more than just the “concept of a plan”. Let’s protect America the free. Through history we have fought to protect freedom in America; how is this time any different? We hear a lot about “making America great again”. Let’s instead come together and find what actually makes America great and keep it that way.
