North Allegheny is home to many different people in which everyone is free to express themselves through fashion. From teachers to students everyone chooses to express themselves in their own unique way. We plan to highlight some of the most distinct and some of our personal favorite accessories worn by teachers and students at NAI.
Aria Ogle – Hoops & Piercings
NAEYE: How many piercings do you have?
AO: I have ten piercings. Well, I used to have 11 but I hated my cartilage piercing so I took it out.
NAEYE: Where are all of your piercings?
AO: Um… Well, I have three cartilage piercings. They are all really close together because I wanted to put rings in them but like I don’t have any rings right now. And then I have three on each lobe and those are my ear piercings. Then I have a septum piercing. I hate my septum piercing but I still wear the ring sometimes just for fun. Cause I thought it matched the other rings and I was like it’ll be a good match.
Sydney Butcher, Taylor Helfer, & Elizabeth Cuba – Chokers
Sydney Butscher (pictured left), Taylor Helfer (middle), and Elizabeth Cuba (right) all wearing a variation of popular choker necklaces.
NAEYE: When do you think chokers came into style
TH: Honestly like 7th grade, 8th grade
SB: Really because I wore that little bead one?
TH: The summer 8th into 9th
NAEYE: Why do you wear them (Chokers)?
SB: I feel like my chest is really bare… Woah that sounded weird but like…
TH: I think my neck just looks better
NAEYE: The shell one is really common what do you think about this?
SB: Yeah, well I don’t want to classify myself as a VSCO girl. Because that’s really cringe. Jaida got this for me in Greece but like I think they’re pretty. They are beachy and remind me of summer.
Mr. Reck – Converse
NAEYE: When did you get your shoes
Mr. Reck: When did I get these? Oh I don’t know. I have a lot of shoes.
NAEYE: Are you a big shoe guy?
Mr. Reck: Yeah- I’ve got a lot of shoes.
NAEYE: Are they all colorful? Are they all Converse?
Mr. Reck: Uhh… There are a good amount of Cons (converse). I have some Vans. I have some flyers. Basically they all have to have color. They have to match my outfits. You only get a few – as a teacher you know? I had a pen than one of my students stole it that was orange and matched my outfit.
NAEYE: Do you try and match every day?
Mr. Reck : Yeah every day why not? Lifes too short to be basic.
NAEYE: What went through your head this morning when deciding what to wear?
Mr. Reck: Honestly I start with the shoes I’m like “I haven’t worn those in a while I’m going to grab those” and then I build my outfit from there.
Mrs. Holland – Scarves
NAEYE: How long have you been wearing these types of scarves?
Mrs. Holland: well I’ve been wearing these for a long time. These little ones are back in style now. They went out for a while but now they’re back.
NAEYE: Why do you wear Scarves?
Mrs. Holland: I just wear them because I don’t like to be plain. I like to add something to it. Always these jewelry at least to bracelets and rings and earrings.
NAEYE: When did you start wearing these scarves?
Mrs. Holland: Probably… well, I’m pretty old and I used to wear them for a long time. I just keep buying new ones. I have three bins of them. I have winter, spring or summer, and then I have the real heavy ones like wool. These little things are called ascots.
Zane Kinne – Socks
NAEYE: Why did you decide to wear these this morning?
ZK: I was feeling Spunky this morning. I have these bigfoot ones too and they’re crazy. I also have chicken wing and celery that are also really awesome.
NAEYE: Why do you wear these? Do you wear them as a form of expression?
ZK: I like expressing myself through socks.
Zane Kinney & Carmen Randa – Bracelets
NAEYE: Why do you wear these bracelets?
ZK: Because I like the fun colors
CR: I usually wear more but I just wore this one today but, I think they look cool.
NAEYE: Which bracelet is your favorite?
CR: The one I’m wearing, of course, I don’t leave my house without it!
ZK: My favorite is the one I made at cross country camp but I don’t wear it often because it’s so special.
