Miss Dixon
What activities do you like to do with your family?
My family goes camping together. I have camped since even before I was born (There are pictures of my mother pregnant with me camping with my father). As a child my favorite was going to Cape Cod. We went from when I was born until I was 12. Sometimes my cousins would come too. We once camped around Michigan, and that was my favorite vacation of all time. Now, as an adult I camp with my Fiancé and our two dogs. There is nothing like being in the middle of the woods.
What are some of your favorite family traditions?
- Some of my favorite family traditions include dinner. My parents always made it a priority to have dinner as a family, and as an adult I value that so much. Also going to church together. My dad used to sing, and it was a great weekly family tradition.
- Traveling, our family lives far away (New Jersey and Michigan), so living in the middle gives us the opportunity to travel. Our car rides as a family were always fun. My dad used to tell stories, and then as we got older, we listened to the Harry Potter Books on tape while we drove.
Does your family have any signature meals which you enjoy eating?
- My dad makes each of his kids “Daddy Eggs”, but mine are different from each of my brothers.. my Daddy Eggs are a piece of toast with a heart cut out of the center and an egg cooked into it.
- My mom always makes seafood pasta. It’s the simplest of recipes, but she makes it the very best. Some veggies with the sea legs you can get just about anywhere. She’ll add peppers, onions, and shrimp with a butter sauce. Easy quick and delicious!
- For Christmas we follow the Slovak tradition: Christmas dinner begins with Oplatky, small bread wafers and a blessing. Then, the main meal consists of 12 different dishes of food on the table.
Where is your favorite place to spend time with your family?
Caseville Michigan. My uncle has a cottage in the thumb of Michigan. It’s on the lake, and it is my favorite place. Especially during Cheeseburger in Cassville. There are Cheeseburger booths outside of every shop, fireworks, bands, a parade, and my personal favorite the cardboard boat race. My family has won the cardboard boat race 2/3 times we’ve competed in it.
What does your family mean to you?
Everything. Spend time with them while you can, for time is the most important gift you can give anyone. I would do anything for my family without hesitation because I know they would do the same for me.
