Are We Really That Different?
As teenagers, we tend to look up to celebrities and wish our lives are as amazing as theirs, but are their lives really that perfect?
We often look at celebrities like they are not people and do not have emotions or go through anything in their lives. Maybe things are different for them than they seem to us. Maybe we are all human after all.
Miley Cyrus grew up on Hannah Montana and made music, but it was not until 2012 when things took a turn for her. She had a mental breakdown after Liam Hemsworth and her broke up after engagement while she was in her wild phase and he was not a fan. This is when she cut her hair and dyed it blonde and was making music like “Wrecking Ball” and the rest of Bangerz album. But in soon, she seemed to turn herself around when she grew her hair out and was on the show The Voice. Now, in 2020, she seems to be very happy and is in a relationship with Cody Simpson.
Demi Lovato was on Disney Channel in Camp Rock and other movies and TV shows. For her, it was not until her parents got a divorce where she had mental health issues and in 2018 overdosed on drugs and was hospitalized. Since then, she began to focus on her well being and be more open about her mental issues in an effort to help others.
Bella Thorne played Cece on Shake It Up from the time she was 13 to 16 years old. We all know that she suffers with dyslexia, but what we did not know was that she had to be homeschooled because of all the bullying she was receiving. She also revealed that at the age of 14 she had been sexually abused.
Rowan Blanchard played Riley on Girl Meets World and the older she got, she started to express herself through her interesting sense of style. She went through a struggle with depression and now openly supports and is apart of the LGBTQ community. She also supports mental health and feminist causes.
Many people to this day suffer with similar problems as these celebrities. Looking around, we often compare our lives to those who have fame. In reality, their lives cannot compare to what our imagination makes it seem like.
Buying into this fake culture, influenced by Instagramers or youtubers, or falling for the tacky adds to buy some useless product that you’ll never use. Those things seem so perfect because someone famous uses it. However, our lives may not be as far off as theirs.
After all…nobody is perfect.
