How Important is Creativity?
Creativity helps people in many ways. It makes us happier, healthier, and better at processing information.
Creativity. What is it? Is it Art? Music? Writing? Dancing? Makeup? Fashion? There are many different types, but the Google dictionary definition is “The use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of artistic work.” With school and life, we don’t seem to value art as a necessity. “How important is it?”, some people may ask. The truth is it’s really important for all functions of life.
First, creativity is important to our health. It helps with happiness and makes people smarter. One knows that feeling when you’re working on something and next thing you know it is an hour later? That feeling is called flow, and it helps in many ways. A few are reducing anxiety, helps mood, and even slows one’s heart rate.
Also, if a person plays an instrument they have better connectivity between the right brain and the left brain. The left brain is responsible for motor functions, and the right brain focuses on the music. When the two sides of your brain communicate with each other, your cognitive function improves. This makes you able to process information better.
Humans have been creating things for thousands of years, and it’s helpful in a lot of aspects of our life. Without creativity, we would not have a lot of important inventions.
Creativity is dropping in schools. Why? Simple, between ACT’s, SAT’s, GPA’s, and other college and work requirements, it’s hard to find the time in the day to do something no matter how much one may want to do it. It doesn’t matter if it comes down to all the other pressures of life and art. The other activities win. In the end, creativity is important despite the fact that some may not think so.
So go out and create.
