NAEye: What sport do you play?

EF: I play girls basketball.

NAEye: What grade are you in?

EF: I am a current tenth grader.

NAEye: When did you start playing?

EF: I started playing when I was in third grade.

NAEye: Why do you continue playing this sport?

EF: I continue playing basketball because I love the game. It’s a fast-paced, exciting game that I get to enjoy with my friends.

NAEye: Do you play any other sports? If so, which ones?

EF: No, basketball ends up being a full year sport because I also play AAU during the summer.

NAEye: What is your training/ conditioning like?

EF: During the offseason, we run ladders and play to stay in shape.

NAEye: Do you feel successful in your sport?

EF: Yes,  I feel successful because at the beginning of the season we set goals for ourselves and to see us get to those goals or even exceed those goals, it’s very awesome. Last year, we went very deep in the season and we hope to build upon that success.

NAEye: What is your offseason like? How do you keep in shape during it?

EF: During the offseason, I play AAU for the Western PA Bruins. As soon as your high school team’s season is done, we start workouts so there is a lot of running and conditioning to stay in shape. We play games on a national level against very competitive teams through the last week in July.  Through this time, you stay in shape and keep improving your skills.

NAEye: What is the hardest part of your season and what challenges you most in your sport?

EF: The hardest part of our season is the playoffs when you are physically tired and there are quicker turn arounds between games with further travel, but it is also one of the most exciting and rewarding things during the season. What challenges me most in basketball is keeping my confidence up. Every sport is hard to be perfect in but you need to remember that to be great and to keep improving, you have to have some mistakes.

NAEye: How do you prepare for your games/meets?

EF: For preparation for my game, I try to get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy meal before, stay hydrated and watch some game film to get prepared for the game.

NAEye: Do you feel pressured to succeed in your sport?

EF: Yes, I do feel some pressure to succeed but I have to remember that no one is perfect. If we as a team put in the time and work to prepare we have to be ok with the outcomes but the tradition of past teams have set a winning precedence that we want to uphold and continue!

NAEye: What about your sport brings you the most joy?

EF: During the season, we spend a lot of time with each other and it brings all of us together. I love my teammates and spending time sharing those special moments with them is very special.

NAEye: What is your favorite pregame meal?

EF: My favorite pregame meal is some fruit and a piece of chicken with a protein bar.
