NA for Change Presents: Caravan For Change
NA students and alumni have come together with the goal of creating change in our school district, community and beyond.
North Allegheny students and alumni have created “NA for Change” to serve as a collaborative platform to educate and inform the community, including children and parents. The group believes that, although North Allegheny has made significant strides towards a more inclusive environment, more needs to be done within the school district in order to teach students about the struggles minorities face in this country and how we have gotten to this point.
They are hosting an event called Caravan For Change on Wednesday, June 17th from 1-2:45 PM. The rally will begin in Blueberry Hill Park, and the caravan will end at the North Park pool. At the rally, there will be speakers and students speaking about their hopes and plans to format change.
At the event, attendees will assemble to form a caravan that will travel through a predetermined route, hitting landmarks like the North Allegheny senior high school. Participants will arrive with their cars decorated with signage (posters, paint, etc) because they want their message of action, optimism, and acknowledgment of American faults to reach as many people as possible. There will be a police escort throughout the entire route. For the rally, they are encouraging everyone to wear masks and to not attend if they have symptoms of COVID-19.
You can RSVP for the event here.
For more information, visit their website that has a lot of educational resources and ways to take action, or follow their Instagram account @naforchange. The group is not affiliated with the North Allegheny school district and their views do not reflect the opinions of all NA students, staff, or administration.
