Middle School Musical: Beauty and the Beast

The North Allegheny middle schools invited everyone to be their guest for the first time on December 8, 9, and 10 to go see the first ever middle school musical: Beauty and the Beast.

The idea of doing a middle school musical has been an idea bouncing around Bob Tozier’s, the artistic director, head for many years. “The most difficult part of the middle school musical was the timing” With all the activities that are always going on at the schools it was hard to find time actually be able to use the stage and perform. The reason for the wait was that the people in charge wanted to make sure that with the busy schedule of NA kids, the students would want to throw an entirely new activity onto their plate. Mr. Tozier couldn’t have been happier with the turnout, “We allowed the older middle school students to sign up first.  When we saw that more than 150 students signed up, we knew instantly that we couldn’t add 6th grade into the process.” Even though not all three grades could participate in the performing aspect of the show, many of them are still apart of the stage and technical crew.

Kirthina Kannan, a senior working as tech crew, had a lot to say about the show. “Being on the crew is such an amazing experience getting to work with these talented middle schoolers. Especially since this is the inaugural middle school musical it makes it even more special!” Meredith Semon-Pomposelli has been the choreographer in NA shows for a while now and was very excited to work with the middle schooler now. “It is different, but it is a good different. I think they are much more receptive, they are more willing to accept what you are selling so it has been a great experience.”

The first middle school musical ended up being a huge success with everyone excited for the future.
