” There’s so much to love about Irish Dancing, but my favorite part is the competition.”

— Maggie Scala

While the rest of NAI was sitting in class at the conclusion of March, she was on a stage performing in front of a packed crowd in Glasgow, Scotland. Outside of her school life, Freshmen Maggie Scala’s schedule revolves around Irish dancing. She has been practicing the sport at the Belles School of Irish Dance, a school owned by her Aunt Joy, since she was merely five years old.

As for her accomplishments, Scala has been placed in regionals for two years, and qualified for both Nationals and World’s four times! Her school of dance has collectively won the Saint Patricks Day Award almost every year since the nineties! Naturally, qualifying for competitions that are this worldly requires travelling. So far, Scala has been to New Orleans for 2017 World’s, Ireland, and Glasgow.  She informed NAEye that “It was enjoyable to sight see for World’s, but it was also stressful because I didn’t know anyone that I would be competing against since they were all from different countries.”

In order to maintain her talent and also as entertainment, Scala puts in hard work at the studio every day. She first started Irish Dancing because she “wanted to follow in the footsteps of her aunt.” As for the future, Scala told that she “plans on continuing until I graduate highschool, and then I may quit before college starts.” Great Job Maggie!
