“I would drive around with my parents and would see so many homeless people. It always made me sad.” Eight year old Samantha Kincaid has been a Pittsburgh resident for four years attending the North Allegheny District. October 2017, Kincaid began helping homeless all around Pittsburgh. “I wanted to help because nobody should have to worry about food or staying warm,” Kincaid exclaims after a homeless person asked for help. Kincaid then decided she would provide as much help as she could for people in need.

Kincaid and her grandparents voluntarily went to the local Lowe’s to buy buckets and materials at all-purpose stores.

Kincaid filled buckets with food, water, first-aid care, sweatshirts, socks, gloves, hand and foot warmers, and other necessities. The group of charity workers trudged all around Pittsburgh in good and bad weather, searching around busy streets, under bridges, and close to sports arenas for homeless people in need. Between 25 and 30 buckets have been distributed since October 2017.

“I hope that I can get local businesses and Pittsburgh sports teams involved.” Kincaid strives to spread the word of her fundraiser for homeless people all around Pittsburgh. Her local Lowe’s has already donated 100 buckets for Kincaid’s fundraiser, beginning a trend of contributions from local businesses.

Kincaid’s goal is to raise as much money and get donations of supplies to help as many people as possible. She has raised over $2,000 already, which means more than 100 homeless people can finally be hydrated, warm, and cared for.

Any donation is appreciated and welcomed. Contributions from the GoFundMe fundraiser are used to gain more funds for more supplies for homeless people. “Wouldn’t it be great if I could help 1,000 people?!” Kincaid is happy to accept any contribution of supplies and/or money to help the homeless all around Pittsburgh.
