Tabo Mkandawire

“It comes from the Western Province of Zambia. It sounds weird to say because most people haven’t met multiple Tabos but it’s actually a moderately common name in southern Africa! Fun fact: it’s unisex.

There isn’t really a story behind it. It means joy. My parents liked the name and the meaning, so that’s what they chose to name me.

For an interesting fact: everyone actually pronounces my name incorrectly (including myself when I’m introducing myself to people). It usually takes a while for people to learn and remember how to pronounce it correctly, and I don’t really have the time to do that every time I meet a new person.

The ‘b’ is pronounced differently, and the stress in the syllables is supposed to be in the first half instead of the second.”
