As December 25 looms around the corner, students find their minds daydreaming about what activities they’ll be able to engage in once the bell rings this Friday, while being in the rare state of feeling stress free. The day brings the best gift possible for a student: Winter break. Staying up late to binge watch as many Christmas movies possible is one activity that most Americans partake in over the course of December. Like most things in life, there are two groups of films. Some movies are the perfect ones to watch that will get you in a festive mood, while being filled with lovable characters and perfect puns. However, there will always be those holiday movies that continuously bombard you with cheesiness, and make absolutely no logical sense( basically all hallmark movies). All of the movies below fall into the first category, fortunately. If you find yourself wondering what to do over the break, grab some hot chocolate and a fuzzy throw, then choose a movie off of this list to watch.

The Top Ten Christmas Movies to enjoy over Christmas Break:

1.The Santa Clause (you can now watch this on Netflix!)
This film features the story of a father who ends up taking over as Santa, whom he had previously not believed in. The movie takes you on Scott and his son Charlies journey as they handle the effects of this Christmas miracle in a humorous way that shows the power in believing.

2.Elf (available on Netflix)
If you are part of the 10% of the school who hasn’t seen Elf, it will definitely make you choke on your popcorn from laughing. The hilarious film is centered around Buddy, played by Will Ferrell, a human who was raised as an elf, navigate New York City. At the same time, he attempts to fit in with society and his new found family while trying to restore their Christmas spirit.

3.Home Alone
You will relate to nine year old Kevin, who feels like he’s being forgotten/disrespected by his gigantic family during the holidays. When the family boards their plane to Paris, they realize that they left Kevin behind and can’t get back to him(for some reason the Police and everyone else aren’t concerned). Two homely robbers decide to hit the large house that Kevin lives in, who retaliates by outsmarting the thief’s with Booby-traps.

4.Christmas with the Kranks (available on Netflix)
This film has a different story line than most Christmas movies, which sets it apart from others. It is centered around the Kranks, a family who’s tired of all the stress Christmas brings. They decide to eliminate all Christmas related things and go on a cruise instead, since their daughter is away, which causes judgement from the neighbors. When they find out that their newly engaged daughter is coming home and expecting a traditional holiday party, the whole neighborhood comes together to try to give their beloved daughter the Christmas she deserves.

5.Polar Express (available on Netflix)
Polar Express is one of the classic movies that are chosen to be watched on Christmas Eve. The tale shows a young kid who is living every eight year olds dream: going to the North Pole and meet Santa Clause, along with his elves. However, he got there by traveling on a majestic train with several other children. This movie is sure to get you in the Christmas mood with it’s beautiful scenery(excluding the nasally kid with the glasses who will most likely creep you out), and it’s Grammy winning soundtrack.

6.Old Disney Channel Christmas Episodes( That’s So Raven, Even Stevens, Suite Life of Zack and Cody)
Although these are not movies, they are definitely worth watching. It has been mutually agreed on by most that the old series on Disney Channel are classics. Check Netflix or another streaming site for these festive episodes!
Note: Phineas and Ferb is available on Disney’s website for free!

8. Eloise at ChristmasTime
If you are looking for a light hearted movie, this is the right choice for you. It will make you wish that you lived in a hotel (which would be extremely expensive, but still amazing) like nine year old Eloise. Follow along with her as she tries to stop her friend Rachel’s holiday wedding with the wrong man, while she also juggles getting the perfect gifts for her loved ones ( and snooping on her presents from others).

9.The Grinch who Stole Christmas
(the cartoon one, not the real life one that’s a little creepy)A classic, The Grinch is a cartoon that shows the true meaning of Christmas in an entertaining way with a catchy soundtrack.
