Many people doubt the power of a hug. Nope, not Human Geography. A hug. A tight squeeze in someone’s arms that shows affection and support.

A few days ago, during homeroom, NAEye and Yousaf Bajwa spread random acts of affection and joy.

A human needs 8 hugs each day for “maintenance” and 12 a day for growth. No joke. It can build a sense of trust and safety. They build oxytocin levels, but many call it the “happy hormone.” Further, a longer hug extends people’s hormone of serotonin, another “happy hormone.”

With over 88% of school students nationally stressed and 36.8% of students reporting symptoms and feelings of depression, the need for hugs in our school and community is higher than ever.

With the quarter almost over, NAEye encourages you to reach out to loved ones, and friends.
