When another new medical drama premiered on March 27th, 2005 many would not be able to see themselves still watching the longest running show of its kind, but that’s exactly what Grey’s Anatomy has done as there were still millions of fans watching the 18th season’s premier on September 30th, 2021.

The show has lost characters and added many characters throughout the years, but of course the core four still remain, Bokhee An, Richard Webber, Miranda Bailey, and of course the one and only Meredith Grey. 

The show has 369 episodes, each with the potential  to capture a new fan’s attention or to lose the interest of an old fan. With this in mind, NAEye polled readers for their thoughts on the show, if they had watched it from the beginning, or had watched it in its entirety.

Only 40% of responders had watched all 17 seasons. The majority of those surveyed indicated they were planning to watch the season 18 premiere.

That premiere left viewers with many questions still unanswered for week two, such as will Owen and Teddy continue on with their healthy relationship or will their relationship quickly become toxic again? When will Meredith be returning to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after her trip to Minnesota? With Megan Hunt and Riggs now seperated, will Megan work at Grey Sloan or will she return to the military?

With so many characters and storylines coming and going over 18 seasons, Sophomore Avery Butcher said she is still watching because “It is a very entertaining show, and I am invested in the characters.”

Sophomore Grace Heliger also highlighted, “I like the character development and how you get to know each one.”

Many questions are still unanswered on what will happen with title character Meredith Grey this season. Butcher believes, “Meredith is going to struggle with the fact that there is nothing really left for her at Grey Sloan and may eventually leave.”

Whereas Heliger believes, “It will be the last season and Meredith will either die or leave the show.” She also said that she thinks old cast members will reappear throughout the season.

In the end many people are wondering about the new love interest for Meredith that reappeared in the season 18 premiere, Nick Marsh. As for what this means for the rest of the season,  Butcher said, “I still think Meredith and Hayes should get together.”
