Grammy nominations have been released, and the award show is set to take place on January 31, 2022. There were some shocking and some predictable Grammy nominations in the top categories including new faces and your old favorite artists. 

Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo were both nominated for seven awards including the category, album of the year. Billie Eilish was nominated for her album, Happier Than Ever, and Olivia Rodrigo was nominated for her debut album, Sour. Both were massive hits that could only compete with albums such as Taylor Swift’s ninth album, Evermore, Lil Nas X’s album, Montero, Kanye West’s album, Donda and many others including Doja Cat, Justin Bieber, and H.E.R.

Many artists nominated for album of the year were also nominated for song of the year. Lil Nas X was nominated for his song, Montero, Billie Eilish for her song, Happier Than Ever, and Olivia Rodrigo with her song, driver’s license. Some other nominees include Ed Sheeran with his song Bad Habits, and Bruno Mars with Leave The Door Open. 

2021 brought a lot of new artists into the spotlight. Social media gave these artists a platform to expand their fanbase. The nominees for best new artist include Olivia Rodrigo, Glass Animals, The Kid LAROI, Saweetie, and various other rising artists. 

Olivia Rodrigo was nominated once again. This time in the category, best pop solo performance. Her debut single, driver’s licence, makes her a contender against major artists. She is competing against other already well-established artists such as Justin Bieber with his song, Anyone, Ariana Grande with her song, Positions, Billie Eilish with Happier Than Ever, and Brandi Carlile with Right On Time. 

Jon Batiste leads the 2022 Grammys with the most nominations. The musician’s album, We Are, set him apart from the rest and earned him nominations in 11 categories including the most popular, album of the year and record of the year. His commitment and his varying music range allowed him to unexpectedly dominate the 2022 Grammy nominations. 

Anticipation and excitement grows within the music industry as the 2022 Grammy Awards approach. Fans are eager to see who walks away empty handed and who takes home an award on January 31st.
