Germany Bound

Claire Fiedler, Staff Writer

On May 6, 2022, I will depart for Germany, where I will attend a German high-school for three months. This amazing opportunity has brought with it many different challenges and emotions.

I am writing this during the final week before I leave, and I am a ball of stress. I have to finish all my classes and pack my bags, all while enjoying the last days I will have in-person with my family for a few months. I have only just realized how long this trip will be, and it’s quite scary.

Over the past few months, I have been able to talk with a student of the class I will be a part of. She answers any questions I have and eases my worries, and I can’t thank her enough for it. We plan to meet up before my first day at the new school.

Obviously I am very privileged to have the opportunity to study abroad, and I am so grateful for both my parents and my grandmother for helping to achieve this dream. My grandmother has worked out the logistics with the school, and she will provide me with housing and food while I am there.

I hope to explore Dresden, the city I will be staying at, and beyond during my time there. I will be within walking distance of many historic sites, and I plan to visit most of them. Later in the summer, I plan to travel across Europe and visit many countries and cultures.

Traveling through Europe and visiting Germany have been lifelong dreams of mine, and I’m so lucky to be able to do it now. I have to remember to put all my stress and worries to the side and enjoy the wonderful places and experiences around me.
