Colin Ward is one of two  freshman golfers on the Varsity team. It may be overwhelming for some, but Colin has handled the big task of being a freshman on the varsity golf team quite well.

“I really started by encouragement by family and friends, I saw others play, so I tried it myself ,and really just fell in love with the game, ”says Ward about his introduction into the game.

Now when it comes to match time, Colin says his preparation is,  “Most of the time I just have to get my headspace in the right place, because if your brain is toying with you, it is really hard to find yourself and have a good round, so that is one of the most important parts to me.”

In September, Colin and 5 other people from North Allegheny bused up at the beginning of the day and headed to Suncrest golf course. To Ward’s standards he wasn’t having the best season, so when the section qualifiers came around he knew he had to show up.

And show up he did, posting  a 74,  2 over par, which was good enough for a tie for third among all boys grades 9-12 in the entire WPIAL.

There was some pressure on Ward, but he responded in a great way. “I had been preparing for a while for this, I knew it was gonna be a big day and I was on my game and played a great round,” he says.

So Colin is obviously not phased by pressure, his next big task will be competing at the wpial Semi final round at Champion lakes golf course, out in Ligonier, PA.

He has a chip on his shoulder and he’s ready to prove himself wrong

Stay on the lookout for Colin Ward.
