The happiest place on earth has a few modest improvements for the upcoming year. Walt Disney World is one of the most visited places every year since its founding on October 1, 1971. Of course, with new demands and interests, the parks are regularly updated and new additions open allowing new amusement rides to attract more visitors. Recently in 2019, new developments like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney’s Riviera Resort, and the Disney Skyliner, a new gondola transportation system at Walt Disney World, opened. In this article, everything needed to know about the resort’s new projects opening this coming year is provided.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Opening March 4, 2020, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Chinese Theatre

This ride is an exhilarating experience that is a spin-off based on the Disney Channel cartoon “Mickey Mouse”. When entering the ride, Goofy is expected to greet passengers and will be the driver, or engineer, of the train throughout the ride. As the ride is in motion, the dynamics of twists and turns will be encountered and the whistle used in the 1928 Disney cartoon “Steamboat Willie” will be used as a sound effect. Visual effects and technology provide vast, multidimensional, and immersive illusions. Shockingly, this will be the first Disney attraction with Mickey and Minnie Mouse as the main features.

Space 220

Opening March 30, 2020, Epcot, Mission: SPACE

The culinary experience of this space station restaurant is meant to be immersive. The restaurant is supposed to give the feeling of being 220 miles up in space with daytime and nighttime panoramic views of the entire galaxy in the windows. On the elevator ride to the dining room, a simulator presenting real ascending space travel is played to expand the rider’s perspective. Top-notch food will be served at this restaurant, which makes the experience not only jaw-dropping but “tongue-loving”.

Harmonious

Opening Spring 2020, Epcot, World Showcase

After 20 years of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, Disney has finally decided Epcot’s long-running nighttime show will be changed. Harmonious will debut later this spring as the biggest nighttime spectacular that will ever be brought to any Disney park located around the world. The synopsis of the show is about how Disney’s music unites people all in different nations. The artists featured will be from different countries singing common Disney tunes. The technology necessary for this production includes lights, lasers, floating props, pyrotechnics, LED panels, and automatic dancing fountains.

Drawn to Life Presented by Cirque du SoleilⓇ & Disney

Opening April 17, 2020, Disney Springs, West Side

This production will truly be a mesmerizing experience that will transform how Disney is viewed artistically. Pairing Disney with Cirque du Soleil will allow a combination of new varieties to be tested on stage and will be a guaranteed well-reviewed performance. “Drawn to Life” is set to be the first previewed show in the theatre. The story is about how Disney animation has impacted and evolved in the lives of so many people. Acrobatic movements along with masterful dancing will be featured in this wondrous celebration of life.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Opening Summer 2020, Epcot, World Showcase, France

Many changes are occuring in the France pavilion of Epcot and one of them will be this magical new ride. In this new attraction, the feeling of being shrunk down will be brought to the riders and they will be met with Chef Remy in a rendez-vous and complete a race through Gusteau’s Restaurant in a chaotic escapade. This ride has been enjoyed in Disneyland Paris for many years and now the excitement can be experienced right in the heart of Central Florida.

Clearly, the Walt Disney World experience is being enhanced in ways that used to be thought as unimaginable. Bringing the entire resort to the next level requires a great deal of work, but it’s definitely not something that can’t be done. More information on these new developments and other attractions can be viewed in this blog and in this video.
