Hulme-man of NAI

Haven’t you always wanted to know a little bit more about Mrs. Hulme?

What do you do in your free time?

I like to spend time with my family and garden.

What is your favorite unit/work of literature to teach?

The Shakespeare units.

How would you define your teaching style?  Has it changed it all over the years?

It’s definitely evolved based on the trends in education.  It’s more student centered. We do projects and work together to complete assignments and investigate pieces of literature.

What do you think you would be doing if you weren’t a teacher?

Right now?  I don’t know.  The original plan was to go to law school, but I decided not to do that.  I also thought about being an airplane pilot. It would have combined my fascination with flying and space with my love of travel.  Honestly, I don’t know. I can’t see myself anywhere besides in the classroom.

What kind of music do you listen to?

A variety of classical and classic rock.

Can you recall any especially funny or memorable moments from your career?

A memorable moment was when one of my classes organized a class party to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday without my knowledge.

What do you like to read outside of school?

I usually read a lot of nonfiction, spend time finding out about things going on in the world, and catch up on the news.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Have fun in what you do and don’t sweat the small stuff.
